TUAW (or The Unofficial Apple Weblog) has featured my application Calcutipr as a part of their WWDC Demo line of posts. While attending WWDC 2009 I gave a short demo for a TUAW blogger who was asking iPhone and iPod touch developers to come by and give demonstrations of their apps. Their article mentions both Calcutipr and another developer’s tip calculator (Gratuitous).

The latest update to Calcutipr, version 1.1.1 has been approved by Apple and is now available via an update in the App Store.

This update makes Calcutipr fully compatible with iPhone OS 3.0 as well as a bug fix. More information can be found on the main Calcutipr page.

Calcutipr version 1.1.1 has been submitted to Apple as a free update to the tip calculator. This update mainly fixes bugs that iPhone OS 3.0 introduced into the application. I was planning on updating the App before iPhone OS 3.0 was released but I was unable to get the App submitted in time.

This update brings no major changes to the application, the only changes are bug fixes.

Changes:

• Minor bug fixes.

Expect Calcutipr version 1.1.1 to hit the App Store in the next few days.

Calcutipr 1.1.0

Several hours ago Apple approved the first update to my Tip Calculator, Calcutipr, which is now live in the iTunes App Store. As before, Calcutipr remains a free iPhone/iPod touch application. I feel this update brings several essential features (bill, tip splitting, tax subtraction and an user interface overhaul). This new version of Calcutipr, 1.1.0 more resembles my initial vision of the App, the user interface was one aspect of the App I wanted to work and look right.

Calcutipr is getting its first update soon. I just have a few final things to do before the update goes official and is put on the App Store. This new version of Calcutipr will bring the following features:

• UI Overhaul – New black, grey interface.
• Tax Subtraction – Don’t include Tax when calculating your tips (optional).
• Total Splitting – Divide your Total and Tip Amount by anything from Two-to Ten-people.

Expect to see this update in the App Store soon. I feel this is really what Calcutipr 1.0.0 should have been, but many of the items I was working on at the time of release were not ready. For example, I did not decide on how to implement the split feature until just a few days ago, and I feel I found a winner with the slider. As for the new visual look of Calcutipr, it now looks how I envisioned it all along. The darker look of the App I think will help keep users from blinding themselves in dark restaurants, something I planed all along. As always, the visual style of the App has been important to me, and I feel this is a big overall improvement. Expect a new post when the update goes live.

I am pleased to announce the first iPhone/iPod touch application I have made available to the public, Calcutipr. Calcutipr is a tip calculator for the iPhone and iPod touch.

My goal with Calcutipr was to make figuring tips quick and easy.

With Calcutipr, you can accurately determine the proper tip by adjusting the percentage, amount and total by increments of one dollar. Round off any of these to whole numbers with a simple tap. Calcutipr also remembers the last tip calculation, preserving all aspects of the tip next time you launch the app.

Calcutipr offers a quick, accurate and superior way of calculating tips. Look for it soon in the iTunes App Store as a Free application.

I have tried to style Calcutipr like any other iPhone application, using the classic iPhone interface to create a tip application. Hints of transparency in the navigation bar and keypad make Calcutipr easier to use, as you can see what is going on beneath these interface items.

Please expect updates and more features in Calcutipr as I get requests from users. My goal is to make the best tip calculator for the iPhone and iPod touch.
